So I’m sure some of you are used to making cookies around the Holidays, whether it be with your children, friends, family. You turn on that festive music as you sip on that glass of wine or Hot Chocolate. It is a wonderful time of year for most. With that comes those good ol’ bottom of the barrel cookies. I guarantee most of you know what I’m talking about. That God love her, old Aunt Martha put together. Usually includes something along the lines of, nut cluters, pecan sandies, and those moon shaped cookies with the only thing goin for um is the powdered sugar on top, type of deal. Not a real colorful presentation. And should we talk about those Jello molds? Well I’m gonna go there, a very useless item and why people insist on Lime Jello I have no idea, not to mention trying spice it up with shredded carrots added to it. You guys think I’m joking, I’ve seen it done. Let’s try and put a little more thought into it than that. So I like to personalize things when I host a party, there is always a featured cocktail waiting in front of the door when guest’s arrive. and I usually make something for them to take with them, especially around the Holiday’s. Last year I made cut out cookies in the shape of crowns for something different, then I put them in bags to make them a bit more special, so they can take them when they leave. (posted above) Here is a recipe that I found in Better Homes and Gardens.
Sugar Cookie Cutouts:
2/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1t. baking powder
1 egg
1T. milk
1t. vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
*Preheat 375 degrees. In large mixing bowl, beat butter on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar, baking powder, and 1/4 t. salt. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat it egg, milk, and vanilla. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour. Divide dough in half. If necessary, cover and chill dough for about 30 mins or until it is easy to work with. On a lightly floured surface, roll half the dough at a time until 1/8″ think. Using a 2 1/2″ cookie cutter, cut dough into desired shapes. Place 1″ apart onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 7-8 mins. Or until pretty firm with a light brown edge. Transfer to rack to cool and top with your favorite frosting.
